Description
THE SOVEREIGN VESSEL
A museum-style botanical study of Nepenthes rajah—a giant tropical pitcher plant endemic to Sabah, Malaysian Borneo—charting its lid, peristome, pitcher body, tendril attachment, digestive glands, and pitcher formation. A new artifact in the Corpseflowers carnivorous-plant archive.
Adapted to nutrient-poor montane habitats, the plant lures prey with nectar. The pitcher’s rim and inner surfaces reduce an animal’s footing, causing it to fall into digestive fluid, where nutrients are released and absorbed by the plant.
